Eupatorium perfoliatum grows in wet soils in the eastern half of North America. Boneset is a perennial in the Asteraceae family and has been used for its beneficial properties by Native Americans for generations. Astringent and bitter, the dried aerial portions of Boneset can be prepared as an extract, or as a warm or cold infusion. The tea is bitter.
Boneset is a perennial daisy, growing 2 to 4 feet (60 to 120 cm) tall with a long, hairy stem topped with white flower heads of 10 to 20 blossoms from June to September. English folklore notes that the leaves can be burned to get rid of wasps and flies. Some also believe you can use Boneset for protection.

The thick sticky leaves, used either fresh or dried, were boiled to make tea or taken as treatment for coughs, colds, asthma, and tuberculosis. The leaves have been powdered and used as a stimulating expectorant. A liniment was applied topically to reduce fever. Some people use it to relieve muscle spasms,to loosen phlegm, and as a tonic.
