Wheel of Fortune and The Sun reversed...what is the Tarot combination trying to tell us?  Read on for insight and clarity...

Wheel of Fortune & The Sun reversed – What is this combination trying to tell us?

One of my favorite activities with the Tarot is to make connections on two or more cards.  What I mean by this is not simply to know the meanings of the cards, but to help understand what they’re trying to say.  I’ve made it a daily practice to read and interpret a Tarot combination.  In fact, I have a weekly Tarot spread that I use to do this, and it helps guide my week.  Here’s the way this works, I pull a major arcana card and that serves as the ruler card for the week, after that has been established, I pull five more cards, each representing Monday through Friday, and these can be any card, major, minor or court.  It’s these combinations that truly serve as my guide to interpreting the cards, learning the intricacies that exist between them.

Tarot, Tarot Wheel of Fortune

How can I help?

When I set out on my journey to begin a blog on the Tarot, the first question I asked myself was, “What hasn’t been done yet?”.  I thought about this for some time and decided that the most powerful thing I could provide would be deep dives on Tarot combinations.   There has been much written about them, but I haven’t run into a lot of deep dives and that is the subject matter that I’ve decided to blog on this year.  With so many Tarot combinations, it’s truly the heart of effective card reading.  Knowing the meaning of a single card is only a small part of the story, being able to weave meaning and flow between 2 or more cards is where the Tarot gets interesting.

Everyday Witch Tarot Wheel of Fortune

Everything is temporary...

Major arcana 10, Wheel of Fortune reminds us that whatever is happening right now is part of the circle, the wheel, the cycle and we are on a constant, ever changing ride.  What I find to be really empowering about this card is that even in bad times, it’s a reminder that the wheel is moving and the situation won’t stick around forever.  One thing about Wheel of Fortune that can be unnerving for some is that it’s a card that is ruled and guided by the universe, and as such, what is going to happen is out of our control.  Take comfort in knowing though that this is a good karma card, and if you’ve put out positivity to the universe, it will surely find its way back to you.  Often, people get this card confused with luck of the draw, a card of chance not unlike a game of chance, but it’s not what is happening here at all.  The situation here is again a reminder that life is a constant cycle and that means that it’s  also a constant state of flux.  Many of us grapple with change and that can also usher in feeling of dread and anxiety, but rest easy, because again, this card is positive.  Take a quick moment to shut your eyes and visualize the embodiment of Wheel of Fortune, you’ll find a very flexible person who is in tune with the ebbs and flows of life and the universe.

Tarot The Sun, The Sun Reversed Tarot

Lighten up, here comes The Sun!

Major arcana 19, The Sun reversed ushers in a tap on the shoulder reminding us that life isn’t all work and no play.  Have you ever had a friend or family member that can’t put his or her work down?  It’s as if they’ve forgotten what it’s like to live and have fun, perhaps they are consumed with work.  While it’s good to refine you craft, life is meant to be lived.  As we walk our path and the years turn into decades, we can forget the magic that a child experiences every day and when we come across The Sun reversed, we are reminded to always honor our inner child.  Experience life with a gleam in our eyes, take in the beauty and the simplicity of a walk in nature, it’s just one of a million ways to regain our radiance and zest for life.

What do all these numbers mean?

Thoth Wheel of Fortune Thoth The Sun

As we know, each Tarot card has many symbols, pictures, colors and of course a number.  The number 10, which graces Wheel of Fortune,  is symbolic of the completion of a cycle.  It’s a fitting number to represent Wheel of Fortune because we know that the wheel is turning and change is coming.  We have completed a chapter and are about to embark on the next.  What is interesting about this combination is that The Sun is major arcana 19, and 1 plus 9 equals 10, yet another cycle completed.  Since we are looking into The Sun reversed,  it will be prudent to look into the numbers 1 and 9 individually.  The number 1 is of course about new beginnings and the number 9 is about getting close to a cycle coming to fruition and or nearing completion.  These two cards are quite complementary of each other and pack quite a positive message.  If I could summarize the message into a statement, it would be that change is inevitable and embracing it like a child will help ease the trepidation.

Time to renew your optimism...

Deviant Moon The Sun

Setbacks, disappointments, unexpected delays, these are all things that can drive us to the brink of exhaustion and irritation as humans, but nonetheless, they are a part of life.  Even the most optimistic, positive person can find themselves buried in the frustrations of everyday life.  When The Sun reversed appears in our readings, we have a golden opportunity to shrug things off and only worry about those things that we can control.  If we allow ourselves to get bogged down in the negatives of a project or direction we are heading, it can have lasting effects on our mood, our overall demeanor and this wonderful card in its reversed state is just the guidance we need to get back on track.  When The Sun reversed comes up in our readings, we are ready to tackle anything with the positivity that we are known for.  One thing to remember about The Sun card is that in either iteration (upright or reversed), this is a card of positivity and love, one that reminds us that life is best lived in happiness and positivity.  Have you ever felt drawn to a person because of their shine, their radiance and you come to find out that the person is hugely successful?   What’s more,  that the person  has messages of empowerment and positivity?  If you have, that is what The Sun represents.  Simply put, this is an undisputed favorite Tarot card of many.

Bringing Wheel of Fortune and The Sun together

What is the combination of Wheel of Fortune and The Sun trying to tell us?  Life is all about change and moving forward on our path and Wheel of Fortune is the universe bringing in change, which will put us on a new route.  Though we may be experiencing a bit of fear about not being in control of the change, our best defense mechanism is to embrace and welcome it.  Of course that notion is easy to write and encourage, but the execution can prove to be a bit more difficult to manage.  We all have a tendency to get comfortable with our lives just the way they are, and by all means we should, but somewhere in our mind we should always be anticipating the next fork in the road.  Wheel of Fortune has a large factor of Karmic influence and we can boil that down to one simple notion, all we need is love and kindness.  When we combine that Karmic influence with The Sun reversed, it’s a simple, yet profound message, which is that it’s time to regain our positivity and believe in the process of life.  Every win and loss is part of the fabric of who we are and it’s exactly what makes us unique beings.   Turning points in our lives can also be manifested through major arcana 10 Wheel of Fortune and when combined with The Sun reversed, the message is again simple, if the combination could talk to us it would be saying “hang in there, hold on tight, you’ve got this, I simply ask for your trust”.  Sometimes the universe will see that we are not living in our full potential and she will change that reality for us.  While it can be shocking, the rewards of fulfillment and meaning are worth far more than any temporary setbacks or trepidation.
